My mother always said

The only thing my dad ever taught me

was if you wash a mirror with newspaper

it won’t leave smudges on the glass,

 

So headlines polished our reflections

and left labyrinths of streaks as they cleaned.

About the Author

Landon Whitley is a teacher and writer based out of Indian Trail, North Carolina. On his mother's side of the family, everyone lives to be over one hundred years old. On his father's side of the family, there's a history of dementia.
